Overview

The sap from lacquer tree branches are a natural paint that form a work of lacquerware after several sanding and drying processes. Such product has a high anti-bacterial quality and antiseptic effect. It also blocks electromagnetic waves while emitting healthy air. Among the natural paints, lacquer has been traditionally considered the best thanks to its stability. For a long time it has been often used for wooden craft or furniture making. But during the Japan’s colonial rule, the tradition of Korea’s outstanding lacquer culture has been lost and its values have been distorted. Chilmong seeks to establish a firm footing of Korea’s lacquer culture. The Co-op was founded in 2015 as a cultural company in order to inherit the outstanding qualities of Korea’s old products and to find hidden values for the future. The products from the Chilmong combine the outstanding lacquer painting with modern designs. The Co-op’s dining plates, cups and cutlery sets feature splendid colors, refined lines and natural grains of trees as their basic qualities.
